Starting School - September 2017

The application process for children due to start school in September 2017 will begin on Monday 3 October 2016. West Sussex County Council no longer sends individual letters to parents but is advertising the application arrangements as widely as possible and it is in this connection that I now write to you.

As a service to your local community we would invite you to advertise the starting school application window in your Parish Magazine, on your website or by whatever means you normally use to communicate with your residents.

I have attached to this email a poster and leaflet giving details of the application process. The key points are:

· Apply online at www.westsussex.gov.uk/admissions
· Applications can be made between 3 October 2016 and 15 January 2017
· Special rules apply for house movers until 23 March 2017
· The Information for Parents booklet is available on our website
· Further information is available by ringing 03330 142 903

Applications made after the closing date cannot be considered until all on time applications have been processed. This may mean it is not possible to offer a child a place at a local school. We would therefore be grateful if you could help actively encourage all parents to apply by the closing date.

If you have any questions regarding the process please do not hesitate to contact me.

In advance, please accept our thanks for your assistance and co-operation.

Kind regards

Richard

Lower Beeding Association

The Lower Beeding Sports Association held summer fetes, dances, gymkhanas and other fund raising events until they obtained their own sports ground having raised the required £3500 for the purchase of the field in the 1950s. The Pavilion was built in 1964.

Lower Beeding lost its village hall at the end of Mill Lane in the late 1960s and negotiated with the LBSA to build an extension hall onto the Pavilion. Eventually this was agreed and the hall was opened by Lady Loder in October 1977. The Lower Beeding Association was formed in 1975 with the object "to provide a village hall for the use of the inhabitants of the Parish of Lower Beeding without distinction of political, religious or other opinions, including use for meetings, lectures and classes and for other forms of recreation and leisure time occupation" The annual Fete and Dog Show has been held ever since.
It is run by a volunteer management committee and the income is raised through hall hiring, the annual fete, profit from bar functions, sports hirings and a village lottery (250 Club). In recent years the Parish Council has generously donated funds. The LBA is a registered self funded charity and it has a well equipped hall and bar, super sports field and large parking area for 50 cars - what more could you want!

A group of residents from Lower Beeding have organised a family fun day to celebrate the opening of the villages brand new playground - with all the proceeds going towards Duchenne research charity Harrisons Fund.

Maxine Foster, Stephanie Goate, Cllr Jaimie Daniels, Peter Heneghan, John Dunlop, and Mark Webber have organised the day which includes a bouncy castle, live band, a BBQ, and lots of other fun activities and games for children.

Mum of two, Maxine said: We are raising money for Harrisons Fund because our two year old son Austin was diagnosed with Duchenne last November and we believe in their mission and want to help raise as much money as we can to find better treatments and ultimately a cure for this deadly disease.
The plan is to have Austin officially open the park and then we can get the activities underway. We are encouraging families to come along, bring their blankets and picnics and to make an afternoon of it.

We would like to say THANK YOU to our local sponsors who have kindly donated:
The Plough Inn - JTD Construction Ltd - New Street Garage - Smudge and Dribble - Horsham Fencing - Co-ordination Catering Hire - Complete Tree Services - GTS Laser - Sam Halle Cakes

Just a little word about Harrisons Fund…

Harrisons Fund was set up in 2011 by Alex and Donna Smith, in a response to their son Harrison being diagnosed with Duchenne, a type of muscular dystrophy. Its aim is to raise money to fund the worlds best researchers, who are working to find a cure for the disease. Duchenne is a fatal neuromuscular condition caused by the lack of dystrophin which results in progressive muscle weakness. One in 3,500 boys are born with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in the U.K. each year. Their average lifespan is just 20 years and it is one hundred percent fatal. Harrisons Fund is different from many other Duchenne charities out there because it focuses on trying to find a cure for the disease rather than palliative care.

You will now find it easier to report incidents of anti-social driving in Sussex. Sussex Police has re-launched Operation Crackdown - a system that enables anyone to report anti-social driving and abandoned vehicles, either online or by phone

Sussex Police has re-launched Operation Crackdown - a system that enables anyone to report anti-social driving and abandoned vehicles.

Anti-social driving can be driving that is careless, deliberately aggressive or dangerous.

The system for reporting anti-social driving is simple and users should note the registration number of the vehicle and, where possible, the make, model and the color.

Incidents can be reported, either via
www.operationcrackdown.org or by
calling 01243 64 22 22

Users can track the progress of their case using a specific reference number provided.

Every report received through Operation Crackdown is viewed and a decision made on how best to deal with it. In the majority of cases a letter of advice is sent to the driver or rider, but a report can also lead to arrest and possible conviction.
